Lost or expired settlement check: how to get it reissued
Settlement checks look like junk mail, and many expire fast. If yours is gone or past its date, you can often still get paid.
Step 1: find the administrator
The administrator name is on the check, the envelope, or the official settlement site. Search the settlement name plus "administrator" and use the official site only.
Step 2: ask for a reissue
- Contact the administrator by the phone or form on the official site.
- Give your name, mailing address, and claim ID.
- Ask for a reissue, and for an electronic payment if offered.
Step 3: if the fund is closed
Leftover money is sometimes sent to state unclaimed property. Search your state on our unclaimed property list and read how to find unclaimed money in your name.
Avoid this next time
Choose PayPal, Venmo, or direct deposit on the claim form when you can. Electronic payments do not expire in a drawer.
